Our team of experienced Obstetricians, are here to answer all your questions, no matter how big or small. Educational classes to prepare you for childbirth are available for you and your partner, as well as exercise classes to help maintain general fitness and get your body ready for having a baby (please see our Physiotherapy & Wellness Unit section).

24 hour nursery, with nursery nurses to support you and help you to care for your newborn. Breastfeeding gives your baby the best possible start in life. Almost all women can breastfeed successfully. It can sometimes be hard work to begin with but for many it is a wonderful and enjoyable experience.

During your pregnancy the following scans are available:

- The first trimester scan, which was introduced by the famous doctor Professor Kypros Nicolaides. This is a scan performed between 11-13 weeks of pregnancy and aims to identify those with the highest risk in delivering a baby with chromosomal abnormality. The doctors in our Medical Center collaborate with Harris Birthright Center for Foetal Medicine, in London and the programme they use is updated annually. If you are identified as high-risk, you have the choice to proceed with an invasive procedure (CVS or amniocentesis), or with a non-invasive Prenatal blood test. These procedures and the risks surrounding them can be can be discussed with your doctor.

- The anomaly scan is a scan usually performed around 21-24 weeks of pregnancy and diagnoses congenital abnormalities.

- Finally, should you wish, at approximately 32 weeks of pregnancy, a growth scan and Doppler measurement can be performed to estimate the fetal weight at birth and ensure that your baby is growing well.

- During routine checkups, your doctor tests the amniotic fluid and the growth of your baby.

Laparoscopic Gynaecology Surgery Unit
As Cyprus largest private maternity clinic dedicated entirely to the care of women and children, we understand the sensitivity in seeking treatment for one of the complexities of women’s health.
Gynaecological Oncology Unit
One of the most important problems for a modern woman is the possibility of malignant disease (cancer) in her genitals (breast, ovary, fallopian tube, uterine, cervical, vaginal, vaginal). The incidence, morbidity and mortality of these diseases is relatively high. Indicatively, cervical cancer continues to kill about 30,000 women in Europe annually and 250,000 women worldwide, and our country annually harms 50-60 women, most of them young, who have not had children, and of them 20 to 25 lose their lives every year.

Gynecological Oncology has now been established as a medical sub-specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which deals with the pathology of the woman’s genital system, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of gynecological cancer. Gynecological Oncology aims to improve the quality of care provision for cancer patients, who are most likely to be treated, at least in the majority of cases, by specialist gynecologists and oncologists.

Doctors

Dr. Demetrios Papapetrou
Dr Papapetrou graduated from Humboldt University in Berlin, receiving his medical degree in 1973. He specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Friedrichshain University Hopsital, Berlin, receiving his specialisation in 1978.
Dr. Aphroditi Elisseou – Xenofontos
Dr Elisseou – Xenofontos graduated from the National University of Athens Medical School. She was a resident in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia and Alexandra General Hospital in Athens. She subsequently received her specialisation in Athens and worked as a research fellow, with Professor Kypros Nicolaides, at Harris Birthright Research Centre for Fetal Medicine at Kings College Hospital in London. Dr Elisseou – Xenofontos joined the Medical Centre in 1998.
Having experienced three times the experience of normal childbirth herself, she fully supports it and encourages her pregnant patients with continuous support, but also through the psycho-prophylactic courses and special seminars offered at the Mother and Child Medical Center. Dr Elisseou also supports natural childbirth after cesarean section (VBAC).
Using state of the art technologies Dr. Elisseou offers 3D and 4D ultrasounds, both in Obstetrics and Gynecology and takes on cases with repeated miscarriages and high-risk pregnancies.
The latest technological addition to Mother and Child Medical Center is the Mona Lisa laser and Dr. Elisseou deals with all its applications in Gynecology.
Dr. Elisseou has been a collaborator of the Medical School of the University of Nicosia since 2014 and has recently been promoted to a clinical assistant professor.
Dr. Eleni Pipi
Dr Pipi graduated from the Thessaloniki Medical School, receiving her specialisation at Agia Sofia Hospital, Thessaloniki.
Dr. George Anastasiou
Dr. Anastasiou graduated from Leipzig Medical School, and went on to specialise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Staedtische Frauenklinik Leipzig
Dr. Loucas Varnavides
Dr Varnavides graduated from the Thessaloniki Medical School in 1979, receiving his specialisation at Trikala Hospital and Agia Sofia Hospital, Thessalonoki.
Dr. Avraam Pantekhis
Dr. Avraam Pantekhis graduated from the Sofia Medical Academy. He was a resident in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia.
Dr. Andreas Kavalaris
Prof. Dr. Andreas Kavallaris is a visiting member of our medical team. Dr. Kavallaris is the Head of Gynaecological Oncology at St. Loukas Hospital in Thessaloniki
Dr. Aris Papageorgiou
Dr Papageorgiou is a consultant in obstetrics and sub-specialist in maternal and fetal medicine with a special interest in fetal growth, pre-eclampsia and screening using ultrasound. He has a particular interest in research and is working on large scale research programmes in pregnancy.
Dr. Anastasis Anastasiades
Dr Anastasis Anastasiadis graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens, receiving his specialization in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at “Helena Venizelou – Alexandra” General Maternity Hospital in Athens.
Dr. Giorgos Georgiou
Dr. Georgiou studied medicine at the Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, obtaining the title of Obstetrician-Gynecologist from the Prefecture of Central Macedonia in Thessaloniki.
Dr. Maria Shippi
Dr. Shippi graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. She trained in non-profit organisations, clinics, and hospitals in Scotland. Dr. Shippi specialised in the treatment of adults and children with chronic and complex psychological and psychiatric conditions. These conditions include and are not limited to chronic pain, complex trauma, personality disorders, eating disorders and long-standing psychological distress.
Dr. Andrea Shaelou
Dr Andrea Shaelou graduated from the Democritus University of Thrace in Greece. She received her specialization in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Lukaskrankenhaus, a fetal and neonatal hospital in Neuss Germany with over two thousand deliveries per year. She subsequently worked as a consultant in Bethesda Krankenhaus in Duisburg, an Endometriosis and gynaecological cancer center, where she gained significant experience in laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis and other benign gynaecological conditions. She is certified in Minimal Invasive Surgery (Hysteroscopy and Laparoscopy – MIC I) by the german Association of gynaecological endoscopy (AGE).
Furthermore, she is certified in paediatric and adolescent gynaecology by the german Association of Kinder – und Jugendgynaekologie e.V
